The PVC Injection Moulding Process Explained

PVC products such as shoes, building components, and even medical supplies, are typically produced through a process called Injection Moulding. The other process that is commonly used in PVC product production is called extrusion.

Despite how prevalent these processes are, PVC injection moulding is not often talked about. It is a highly effective and fascinating process that allows for thousands of different products to be manufactured with ease.

Here at Innovative PVC, we produce PVC injection compounds at our factory. These compounds are specifically created for the injection moulding manufacturing process. As experts in PVC granules for Injection Moulding processes, IPC will use this article to shed some light on the PVC injection moulding process.

What is PVC Injection Moulding?

PVC injection moulding is an innovative manufacturing process that transforms PVC pellets into PVC products and components. The process allows for almost any shape and form to be created and depending on the type of compound you use the end product could be rigid, flexible, or semi-rigid.

The first step of the process involves plastic pellets being melted down in a heated barrel until they are at the right consistency. From here they are injected into a specialised mould. Moulds can be made from various materials. Once in the mould, the melted compounds harden and thus take the shape of the mould, whatever that may be.

What Are the Different Types of Injection PVC Compounds?

There are three main types of injection moulding PVC compounds that are designed specifically for the injection moulding process. These compounds include flexible injection compound, rigid injection compound, and semi-rigid injection compound. The ideal compound will depend on the required rigidness or flexibility of the end product. These compounds also come in a range of colours and can have other attributes such as UV and chemical resistance among others.
