Our Commitment to a Greener Future Through PVC Innovation

PVC can be found just about everywhere in modern society, from medical tubing to flooring, cable insulation and even PVC cling film. Its versatility is unmatched, but the way it’s formulated can make a key difference in how sustainable it is.

Every polymer compound can carry environmental consequences, which is why responsible PVC manufacturing hinges on a commitment to a more socially and environmentally conscious approach.

IPC is leading the way in this kind of responsible compound development. Here’s what we have committed to:

Lead-Free Stabilisers

Even when they were the industry standard, IPC chose never to use lead-based stabilisers in our PVC production. We’ve always believed in a safer approach, and our formulations have always used lead-free stabilisers. This commitment ensures a safer production environment for our workers and a lower toxic load for customers and the environment.

Low-Molecular-Weight Phthalate Plasticisers

IPC does not use low-molecular-weight phthalates such as DEHP and DOP, which are restricted under the Product Stewardship Commitment due to health and safety concerns. By eliminating these substances, we ensure safer compounds for applications in contact with food, skin, and medical environments, while maintaining full compliance with the PSC.

Cadmium-Free Stabilisers and Additives

Cadmium compounds offer UV and heat resistance, but at a steep environmental cost. Cadmium is a known carcinogen, and even small amounts pose significant long-term risks to human health and the soil.

IPC avoids cadmium in both stabilisers and colour additives. This reduces harmful runoff during manufacturing and disposal and lowers the risk of worker exposure.

Hexavalent Chromium-Free Pigments

Hexavalent chromium has been widely restricted for good reason. It’s highly toxic, persistent in the environment, and hazardous in solid, liquid, and airborne forms.

IPC uses chromium-free pigments and additives, removing one of the most dangerous compounds from the production chain without compromising product performance or colour stability.

Bisphenol A-Free Since Day One

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a substance known for its potential to disrupt hormones and interfere with the endocrine system. While some companies have recently moved away from it, IPC has never used BPA in any of our compounds.

Our commitment to health and safety means our raw materials have always been free of BPA, making our products safer for applications like food packaging, personal care products, and any item with frequent human contact.

Mercury-Free Formulations

Mercury exposure is dangerous even in trace amounts. It accumulates in water sources and enters the food chain quickly.

IPC does not use mercury in any part of our compounding process. This is a long-standing decision aimed at preventing avoidable harm before it can begin.
