Other Everyday Uses of PVC We Bet You Haven’t Considered

Since IPC is your PVC Compound Manufacturing Company go-to, you can rely on us to keep you in the know about our products. But we’re also handy at letting you in on some of the other uses for our products. For example, have you ever thought about the other uses of PVC compounds in everyday products? Some of these may be very familiar to you such as shoes, safety gear and technical fittings which are almost everywhere!

Construction

PVC applications are used in the construction industry regularly. You’re likely to notice them in window and door fixtures as well as around wiring. These multi-purpose plastic compounds can be found in roofing, flooring and wall covers. The material is lightweight but strong and suitable for water applications. Perhaps the most well-known use of PVC in construction is electrical wiring though because of its impact resistant properties. Thanks to this benefit, it is also the most affordable choice for safe usage.

Medical Applications

Other uses can be in medical devices thanks to its durability in applications like tubing and even blood bags. This plastic does not strain under adverse temperature conditions. It also is a relatively cost-effective application that can be used in devices and equipment that tend to have one-use only. The application of PVC also allows for easy sterilisation with steam and radiation. The plastic is tear-proof, which makes it a stronger alternative in medical applications.

Consumer goods

Because of the durability and flexibility of the PVC, it can also be used in clothing. A by-product of PVC compounds is rexine – a type of material found in jackets and pants.  Because of its low-cost, it’s a cheaper alternative to leather and rubber.

Packaging

Another everyday use of PVC is for packaging, an everyday item that consumers don’t give much thought to but has a beneficial purpose. Packaging bottles can be used in the household and beauty industries. Makeup can be packaged conveniently into PVC palettes, and even cleaning products can be contained in easy to use spray. This is a nice lead-up to a post on how recyclable PVC is.
